"No Credible Advisor Does This." Consider Me Non-Credible!
Years ago I heard from a business coach – “No credible advisor meets with a client more than twice a year.”
I guess I must be a non-credible advisor.
My service model is I meet with clients quarterly.
There are two main reasons why.
First, it is what I would expect as a client.
Next, a lot can happen in 90 days, let alone 180 or 365 days.
I’m trying to imagine any other professional where if I needed to see them they would respond by saying something along the lines of “To maintain my credibility we can only meet once or twice a year.”
I’d lose my mind if my doctor ever said that. Or accountant, insurance agent, mechanic, and so on.
I think this boils down to another factor – there is a huge difference between financial advisors and financial planners.
I fall into the latter category.
The differences to me are financial advisors manage your investments. Financial planners are involved with your entire financial lives. And as the great philosopher Ferris Bueller said – “Life moves fast.”
In the meantime, I will continue to be non-credible and provide the service level to my clients they should expect. Hell, it is a service level YOU ALL SHOULD EXPECT!
