Life Balance Tips from Clients
This week’s article seems like a good time to share some things I have picked up from clients I consider to be successful when it comes to life-balance. These are in no particular order. And here is the video version.
- They don’t leave unused vacation time on the books.
- This is pretty self-explanatory. Not every single client of mine finishes their year with the vacation bank at zero, but those who have a better balance do.
- Procrastination is not a word they are familiar with.
- A main reason I love working with physicians is they jump on things immediately. At least my clients do. Getting things done and moving onto more important areas of their lives seems to be a theme.
- A common theme of successful investors is saving first and then spending from what is left over. Practitioners of this approach are not only better prepared for retirement but also for possibly wanting to shift gears down the road, such as switching specialties or going from full-time to part-time.
- Hobbies are a big part of their lives.
- Another self-explanatory one. The key here is to have interests outside of work. I have clients who do everything from backpacking to woodworking to being outside as much as possible. It seems to help them refocus and recharge on the big picture.
- There is a focus on being physically active and staying healthy.
- I shared an article recently about how being in shape is more important than being thin as you get older. My successful clients fall into this category of being in shape and physically active. I see it from the runners to the skiers.
- Focus is on living better, not just longer.
- I believe there is an MLK Jr quote along the lines of it not being about how long you live but how well you live. Maybe this is about squeezing as much juice as possible out of the fruit of their lives, but my clients take advantage of their health, wealth and time while they are at their peaks.
How about we stop here. Hopefully you picked up a thing or two. Regardless, thanks for taking the time to read this.
